Three Things Thursday

1.  Even though I haven't had a real workout plan the last few weeks, I've run a bit.  My local running friends were getting together before the Ugly Sweater 5k to sneak in a few extra miles.  Luckily, I completed a total of 9 miles last Saturday, for my only long run of the month.

The Ugly Sweater 5k was a free, untimed race.  All we had to do was bring new underwear and socks as a donation to the Caring Closet.

I was accidentally matchy matchy with my Facebook friend, Liz, who blogs at 1012 Miles.
I failed in the ugly sweater department, but Diana and Sonya looked great.  A sparkle skirt is always festive, though.
This guy won the Ugly Sweater trophy.  That's an iPad with a fireplace "lit up" on his chest.
I got up early on Christmas Eve and ran 5 miles in the dark with friends.  We ended at Starbucks, of course.

Then, yesterday, I had the chance to run 5 miles with a new running buddy.  Lara completed her first Ironman last summer.  Our families have been hanging out together since baseball season, and I've wondered if I she would be willing to run with me.  Have you ever asked an Ironman to train with you?

Luckily, she's building base miles to run the Eugene full in April.  This means, she's running slow and attempting to keep her heart rate at a certain level.  This translated into 10 minute miles, so I was able to keep up.

2.  We're driving to eastern Oregon today for A's basketball tournament in Bend.  S was looking at the pass conditions online last night.  There is 9' off snow on the sides of the road at the summit.  The team is leaving 2 hours earlier than planned.  I feel so bad for the coach who has to drive an activity bus full of teenagers over the mountain.

The snow should stop by tonight, so our drive home on Saturday should be clear and cold.  I'm glad S is driving our car.

3.  The Mississippi Blues Half Marathon is sneaking up on me (a week from Saturday).  After I run this morning, I'll be at a whopping 47 total miles for the month of December.  My mileage always drops off in November and December, and that's fine.  I just wish I would remember not to plan races in January.

Oh well, this race is more about social time with the amazing Elizabeth from Running for Bling.  I'm also hoping to meet Beth from Run + Travel for the first time IRL.

Not a bad medal, either.
S is coming with me, but he's not racing.  He can't change his mind at the last minute, either.  The race sold out.

Are you racing in January?  Which one?

Just a 10K on New Year's Day. After taking the month of December slow, I have to ease myself back into running. Have so much fun!

It's so funny that you posted this today. I JUST met up with Sonya and Diana (+Travis & Patti) for 5@5 this morning! You should get up and come with us sometime!

Safe travels to E. OR!!! I feel bad for the coach too. Driving in snow freaks me out. I obviously live in the wrong region considering how much snow we get. This morning I left for work 30 minutes early to drive 2.5 miles. I don't have snow tires on my poor car because they are super expensive for acuras. Should have thought about that before purchasing the car. :/

That ugly sweater is AWESOME that won! What a creative idea to us an Ipad. I would never have thought of something so cool.

Love the race medal! Have fun with Elizabeth. :-)

Holy isht, driving in snow sounds terrifying. Poor bus driver. Poor S.

How does one run with an IPAD attached?! Fascinating.

You look adorable in sparkles. So festive.

Medal I got from this race in 2011 had an awesome ribbon and other cool swag, so hopefully the same applies for 2013

Love the Ugly Sweater Runs. My Team in Training group had one the Saturday before Christmas and it was just a lot of fun.
Hope you had a great holiday.
