Friday Five

1.  I'm intentionally posting this mid day, in the hopes that S doesn't see it.  He loves to read about himself on the blog, but only checks in the mornings, when I usually post.

2.  I unintentionally took Sunday-Wednesday off from running this week.  We flew home from Miami on Tuesday, and I worked Wednesday.  Flying back from the east coast is time consuming and exhausting.  At lease we gained three hours so we were home in plenty of time to get to A's basketball game.
--Yesterday I took A to school then went to the gym and ran 4 miles (42:00) on the treadmill before spin class.  I've been wanting to do this for the last few months, but been too lazy busy to get the miles in on the treadmill.  It's convenient and ridiculous to waste the after school drop off and before spin hour doing anything else because...
-- It's icy outside in the morning.  My 2013 gym membership is now only good T/Th/Sa/Su, so this morning I attempted to wait until the temps got above freezing to go outside for 5 miles.  Yeah, that worked out well, the fog rolled in and it hovered around 32 even at 9am.  If you want a surefire plan to slow your pace down, run outside on semi icy sidewalks.  I listened to the Another Mother Runner podcast, and took it super slow, 5 miles (53:00).

3.  S is demanding decreeing stating that I should limit my out of state races to 5 states per year.  Um, well, I'm registered/airfare paid for 6 new states by May 2013.  What about this summer and fall?

4.  Here's where I want to go:

August:  North Dakota/South Dakota double.  LJ and Erika both want to do these races.  I'm just waiting on ND to announce the 2013 exact date.  S doesn't want to visit these states, so I need to take this opportunity to have travel companions.

September:  Montana.  LJ promised to meet us in GA (in March) if I found a MT race I can do with her.  So I did. S has to let me do this one, since I promised already.

Eek, and...

Minnesota:  Run with Jess will be at Women Rock Minnesota over Labor Day.  I'm sure S doesn't want to go to Minnesota either, so this would be a good way to get that state in too.  Plus it's a female only race, so Jess' husband might stay home?

October: Connecticut and Rhode Island double.  The race directors just moved the Amica Rhode Island half back to the same weekend as ING Hartford.  Since they were so nice to create this double again, how can I not participate?  Jess' husband has decided to go, so I need a travel buddy (LJ already did this double) or convince S to come along.  I started pestering him on our flight home from Miami, but the travel fatigue was too fresh for him to consider traveling cross country again in 10 months.  I think he'll come around.

So pretty, I want to run there.
November: Oklahoma, Route 66 half.  LJ suggested this one.  She needs a travel buddy.

5.  Seven races in five weekends isn't too much more to ask for, right?  If I promise in 2014 to limit the states to 5/year do you think he'll let 2013 slide?  I ask for so little in this marriage.  Boy, I've got a lot of convincing/maneuvering/begging to do.

Any tips on convincing S to loosen up a little?

So if I'm adding correctly, you're looking at doing 13 halfs in 2013? My friend, it was meant to be!

I wish I had a way to help you figure something out. I am in the same boat for every race I do it seems. I'm not going to post what helps the situation due to its inappropriatness ;)

I live in Billings, and I just want to tell you, you'll love the Montana Marathon! The views are breathtaking, and it's mostly downhill. :)

Use your body as bribery!! As far as doubles (nd/sd & RI, CT) you should remind S how much money you save with one flight for 2 states... that should be a no brainer.

if S is willing to cut you some slack, tell him I'll come to Eugene

Route 66 is a beautiful course (not that I'm biased from growing up in Tulsa), and a really fun race. Also, Tulsa's not an expensive city, there's tons of good restaurants and fun things to do, and the weather is almost always really lovely even in late November (sunshine!) Plus you can sometimes score cheap flights from Portland to Tulsa on Southwest.

What about the Missoula 1/2 in July? I might run it this year. It is a great race! 3 (ish) hour drive from Spokane :-)
