Kickin' Butt

Sadly, A's basketball team lost on Thursday night.  Even though the moms sent the girls off with a decorated bus and tons of food, t-shirts, necklaces, custom pillow cases and coloring books.

Aren't the cheerleaders supposed to do this?
This put them in a position to "must" win Friday morning (ack, at 10:45 am) or go home.  I was worried after the devastating loss at an 8pm game the night before, how would they bounce back?

With a huge victory!  A had the best game of her high school career, 17 points and 15 rebounds. She was even named player of the game!  What an emotional roller coaster (for me, you know, the mom).  I listened to the game on the radio, while watching it live as well.  How fun to hear the announcers talk about the girls and what great scholars and athletes they are.

Post game 2.
Saturday morning, they played for 4th or 6th place, at 9am.  Honestly, they didn't even look tired, and came home with the 4th place trophy.

Very cool state of Oregon trophy.
Her street name is Dime.  Get it?  Since she's #10.

Since A's team played in the breakfast bracket, I couldn't run on Saturday morning.  Saturday, 3/9, was the day my buddy Heather's daughter Gabby, kicked pediatric cancer's butt.  She had her last treatment, ever, finally.

So, a day late, I woke up on Sunday morning, ready to run my virtual 5k for Gabby.

Trying to look tough.  Fine, at least the daughters kicked butt this weekend.
I ran from home, listening to my two favorite podcasts, Another Mother Runner and This American Life.  Admittedly, I got emotional on the run.  Thinking about all that Heather and Gabby have been through.  A bit teary eyed reflecting on Gabby's strength.  Overwhelmingly proud of my daughter and what she accomplished this weekend.  #daughters

I ran along a busy road, and stopped at 3.1 (33:30).

Busy road behind me, gorgeous Oregon Sunday in front.
After my cool photo op, I continued on to turnaround at 4 miles.  I completed 8 miles (1:25:25), and A was still in bed when I got home.  She earned the right to sleep in.  I bet Gabby had a great night too.

Plan for the Week
Monday- Yoga
Tuesday- 6 miles
Wednesday-Rest
Thursday-3 miles (including 6 x 1 minute at zone 5)
Friday-Rest
Saturday- 4 miles
Sunday- Georgia Publix Half Marathon - State #20

Wonderful! What a super experience for A and her mom to live vicariously through! :) I know you had to restrain yourself from running out on the court to "help!" I am very impressed with your kid, and accordingly, with you and S, who I think are doing such a nice job guiding her along. Congrats to all!

p.s. - You're cute, as always! Love your "kickin butt" picture and A's fierce game face in the "Dime" shot.
